Laurelhurst Beach Club on Lake Washington

Looking to have waterfront access but not necessarily live on the water? One option is to have access through a community asset like the Laurelhurst Beach Club. Laurelhurst residents who live within the club boundaries (south of NE 50th) are eligible (not required) to join the private, neighborhood club. The Laurelhurst Beach Club, opened June through September, is aptly name since it is a beach club located on the shores of Lake Washington in the Laurelhurst neighborhood. The club features a beautiful beach, dock with diving boards, swimming area with life guards on duty, ping pong, volleyball court, picnic area with tables and barbeques and a large grass area. In addition, sailing lessons are offered and moorage is also available for smaller boats on a limited basis.

The Denny Blaine neighborhood features some of Seattle’s most premier waterfront real estate. The lots are sizeable and with the Denny Blaine’s proximity to Downtown Seattle the location is attractive. Opening Day of Boating Season On Saturday May 7th

Tomorrow, May 7^th is the Opening Day of boating season in Seattle, brought to you by the Seattle Yacht Club. Every year, the Yacht Club has an opening day parade to celebrate. The parade will feature the University of Washington band, fire boats, and others decorated to with images of marine life. Before the parade, the Windermere Cup crew races will take place as well, beginning at 10:20 am. The opening day is a free event, but it is likely you will have to pay for parking in nearby University of Washington lots. The festivities begin in Portage Bay at 8 am, where the parade boats will gather. Boat Crashes into 520 Bridge

A boat crashed into the 520 Bridge around 8 pm last night, and was wedged underneath near the Montlake Boulevard exit. The cause has not yet been determined, and the two passengers were taken to the UW Medical Center once rescuers got the man and woman out of the wreckage. The 35-ft motor boat collided with the bridge at the West highrise. The passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Lummi Island Ferry in Jeopardy

Lummi Island residents are in jeopardy as the ferry service, which carries Island residents over Hale’s Passage, may be ending. The Whatcom County had a lease with the Lummi Tribal Nations who owns the landing location, Gooseberry Point, and other crossing tidelands for 25 years. After its expiration, the county paid a monthly fee to continue the ferry service. Now, the tribal nation is asking for an additional $10 million over 10 years for improvements like sidewalks and streetlights on the road from Gooseberry point that runs through the tribal lands to town. The Island has under 1,000 occupants who depend on the service to reach doctors, schools and jobs. Because the county cannot afford the tribes demands, many residents may have to leave as a result. There is a bit of controversy because the 25-year lease had a 25-year extension, but apparently wasn’t signed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, making the agreement invalid. State officials, tribe members, and attorneys are still in talks about the fate of the Lummi Island Ferry. Stay tuned for more information about the Lummi Ferry.
